The annual Gallup poll focusing on public attitudes about schools is out. From the Austin American-Statesman:
Left Behind?
One in two people believe the federal No Child Left Behind Act is limiting what children are taught, according to a poll released today.
According to this year’s PDK/Gallup Poll of the Public’s Attitudes Toward the Public Schools:
52 percent of parents believe there is too much standardized testing, which is the cornerstone of the federal law.
67 percent of parents give the school their oldest child attends an A or a B.
Eight in 10 people believe that all children in the U.S. should learn a second language in addition to English.
7 in 10 want foreign language instruction to start in elementary school.
