J.K. Rowling has been on television offering hints about events in the last volume of her mega-selling series. This is from the Washington Post:
Could Harry really die?
J.K. Rowling, author of the Harry Potter books, said earlier this week that Harry's death is a possibility. One reason to have him die would be to prevent other writers from using the character after the series ends. Killing Harry in book seven would guarantee, Rowling said, that "after I'm dead and gone, they won't be able to bring back the character."
In a television interview Rowling revealed that two characters will die as the popular tale of the boy wizard comes to a close. She wouldn't say who dies because she doesn't want to get hate mail (and she wants us to read the book!).
A publication date for the final book hasn't been set, but next summer is probably a good bet. "The last book is not finished. But I'm well into it now. I wrote the final chapter in something like 1990, so I've known exactly how the series is going to end," she said. "The final chapter is hidden away, although it's now changed very slightly. One character got a reprieve. But I have to say two die. . . . We are dealing with pure evil here."
