Plan now to attend the New Mexico Council of Teachers of English annual conference in Roswell at the Roswell Convention and Civic Center on October 28 and 29 of this year. The theme for the conference is "21st Century Literacy: Learning from the Past, Teaching to the Future, Engaging Students Today." The following questions will be explored:
- How do you help your students to remain grounded and to thrive in these challenging times?
- What are the particular challenges you face in the classroom today, and how do you deal with them?
- What threads of teaching lore from your teaching and learning past remain vital to your work in classrooms today?
- How have you adapted and changed in order to engage your students today, while preparing them for the work of building a hope-filled tomorrow?
- Are there tried and true books and methods that continue to serve you and your students well?
- Or have you completely remade yourself and your teaching?
Proposals to present are due August 5, 2005. To request a call for proposals, send a message here and we'll forward it to the appropriate party. This is the first NMCTE conference to be held outside of Albuquerque in a number of years. Attend and help make it a success.
